My thoughts on Equestria Girls

Okay, I decided to do a little alternation to the plans I spoke about in the last blog. I was going to tell you the story of me becoming a brony but because people are freaking out because the spin-off Equestria Girls, I decided to calm people up and tell what I think about this.

To start with, I never hated the concept. I like the fact that My Little Pony has become so huge that Hasbro wants to expand the universe and the brand. To those who think that MLP: FiM is the only cartoon worth of watching, this spin-off might be little too much. But for myself, I love a wide range of cartoon and I'm pretty excited about Equestria Girls.

I figured out that this new addition to the MLP brand could be compared to the products that for example DC Comics or Marvel does. Both of them has dozens of different comic book universes. In some universes Spiderman is Caucasian in the year 2099 and in other he lives in today and is Latino. This comparison might sound a bit far fetch but basically it's the same thing. And it's okay if you don't like Equestria Girls. Some people think that dancing and surfing Batman from the 60s is the best thing ever but Nolan fanatics consider it stupid.

It's basically the same thing, right? And points to the person who knows what's the thing in the middle.

Then to the trailer which I believe every reader has watched, but if you haven't check it out here. I have watched the trailer over and over again to see and figure out everything that's in it. I'm not going to list every fact from it here because many have already posted them. List which Sethisto put up in Equestria Daily is pretty good. But still I want to point out some of things that I found interesting.

The thing that seems to annoy people the most is that the trailer hints that Twilight and the blue haired boy might have little bit of romance in the movie. I can see why people hate this, because it's so typical for these high school cartoons. But for me, I see this "relationship" as a good thing for the storyline. First Twilight is freaked out for being as and with these creatures that we like to call humans. She meets this boy but don't know how to act around him because Twilight is Twilight. But as the story goes on, Twilight gets a crush to this boy. For what I think, one of the "lessons" in this movie will be: "What to do when you have a crush" and I mean like the crushes that just (junior) high schoolers have. But I have one problem with this... Why the hell he looks like Shining Armor!? I have a great citation for this situation: IT'S NOT... CREEPY!

The first Equestria Girls images were pretty bad and I didn't like the character models. But now, seeing them animated, I start to like their appearance. The animation is awesome like in the show that we all like and the ponie... I meant people have great facial expressions. And it's so relaxing to hear that the voices are made by the so talented crew which we love! Oh, and Spike's a dog... I'm not sure what think about that.

Hmm... He does look pretty cute!

To cut the long story short I'm going to quote Saberspark: Trust the staff! All the time I see people praising Meghan McCarthy, Daniel Ingram and voice actors, but now when they are doing something different, most of you seem to hate it. The same has happened with Littlest Pet Shop. The creators were the same but a large group of people still hates the show. Like I said earlier, you don't have to like everything, but meaningless ranting is just stupid. And if you hate it because it's not FiM, then you're just being hypocrite.

I'm excited to see this movie and I'm little bit sad that 99% certain it's never going to be shown in theatres here in Finland and if the DVD hits the stores here it's going to be dubbed. So once again I needed to import it from states with high shipping costs and strangle with region codes. But what wouldn't I do for this hobby...

Thanks for reading my thoughts on this matter. What do you think about this? Tell me in comments below!

PS. If this video doesn't make you like the Equestria Girls, then I'm clueless...
